This succulent is all about the spooky fest and how it originated.
I wonder how your preparations are going on.
At my place, the scene is like the picture on the left.
The basics are that Halloween took inspiration from a couple of Celtic festivals.
Traditional Christians observe it as the Feast of Hallow's Day. They light candles at the graves of the dead to commemorate them and make sure that they are always remembered.
Halloween reminds me of another festival celebrated in Mexico named 'Day of the Dead'. Mexicans pray for the dead. It is more of a celebration than mourning.
The festival is depicted in the Disney movie 'Coco'.
In modern times, Halloween has been commercialized as a holiday. Parties, parades, and treats add to the spooky atmosphere.
Halloween is a new age symbol of the occult and the supernatural. It's an excellent plot starter for a campfire story. 'It was a full moon, the night of Halloween...'
TRICK OR TREATING
Trick or Treating is the primary pass time for children on Halloween. They go from door to door in their neighborhood asking for treats, else, the adults shall be pranked.
All year-round, the children prank the adults, however on Halloween, they are gifted with treats.
It's the epitome of blackmail turned into a tradition. Kudos.
COSTUMES
According to tradition, you're supposed to dress up in scary costumes. The stereotypical mummy made by wrapping yourself in yards of toilet paper, the witch or Frankenstein, and Dracula.
However, nowadays, dressing up as celebrities from music videos is the new trend. I've got to admit, it is a lot scarier than Annabelle.
Adults also find it fancy when they dress up as professionals from different career streams. Nurses, mechanics, ice skaters, ballerinas are all the rage. Yes, so what if you couldn't be a doctor because of your lamentable GPA? Halloween shall fulfill your dreams of wearing a lab coat. Dentists are truly scary by the way.
Another new trend is dressing up your pets.
According to this, your little puppy has a Cinderella-themed tutu while your child wears a dalmatian costume. Perfect.
GAMES
Apple bobbing was one of the most popular games during the Middle Ages. Now, the games are different.
Toilet papering the neighborhood, playing loud spooky music as you drive away your strawberry flavored blood-stained car, and partying in the club with delicious Halloween-themed hors d'oeuvres is the new thing.
HAUNTED HOUSES
Initially meant to induce blood-curdling screams, it has now emerged as a romantic destination as well. Hand in hand with your favourite human (or monster, depending on what you're going for).
Apparently, adrenaline boosts lovey-dovey feelings. Oh yeah, sure! It's going to be very amusing to watch a mask-wearing psycho with a chainsaw interrupting your little 'moment'.
PUMPKIN CARVING
Aah yes! Now pumpkin carving is something fun to do with close ones. It helps you bond and it is a symbol of trust.
"Yes, I trust you that you shall only carve the pumpkin and not my skull. Thank you."
It's not a joke sitting around people with knives.
FOOD
I'm not going to give a reference to Starbucks 'pumpkin-spiced latte'. That's not real food.
Real food is pumpkin pie and applesauce.
FUN FACT: In my school in Canada, we made applesauce in class for Halloween. We helped stir it in a big cauldron. I felt like a badass witch. The problem was, I was dressed up head to toe in pink as a fairy princess. So much for looking cool. The sauce was delish though.
Halloween is a festival for having fun. It helps you unleash your inner child...or your inner demon...whatever you prefer.
